Vendor Certification Training: Another Value-Added Service from Lan 1
At Lan 1 we pride ourselves on the value we can bring to your organisation. Things such as co-marketing campaigns, rapid replacement on critical hardware, pre-configuration and extended warranties are just a few of the value-adds that spring to mind.
Lan 1 also understands that the greatest investment an organisation can make is building strong channel relationships. Great products require a great team of partners with the confidence to sell, install, support and use the product as if it were their own. The only way to acheive this is through Vendor Certification Training.
Vendor Certification Training is a valuable tool for the reseller, bringing to you recognition throughout the entire channel as experts in particular products. Many vendors, TalkSwitch for example, will only pass leads onto Certified Resellers. This ensures that the sale, implementation and support of the technology/s is in well trained, expert hands.
There are many Vendor Certificaiton Training courses going on at the moment and are included below:
Click on the course link above and register today. Don't miss your chance to become certified and be recognised by vendor, distributor and end-user as an expert in the field.

How Lan 1 maximises the ROI for both reseller and end-user
It has always been Lan 1's philosophy never to sell direct to the end-user. In saying this, we often receive enquiries or leads directly from end-users who have seen us at tradeshows or been on the receiving end of an end-user marketing campaign. So what happens with these leads and how can it help you as a reseller?
Lan 1 invests both time and money into first generating, then farming such leads including the follow-up and qualification. Once we are convinced there is potential to sell then lead is deemed an opportunity. The opportunity is then passed on to our most qualified reseller, depending on location, project size and technical level of implementation and support required. Throughout the entire process Lan 1 works with you to ensure the maximum ROI for you and your customer.

Come and see us at the following tradeshows/conferences
Lan 1 participates in a wide variety of tradeshows and conferences around Australia each year. The main objective of these events is to generate interest in our product portfolio, increase awareness of our branding and vendor branding and to generate leads that will hopefully become an opportunity.
Tradeshows and conferences also allow our sales and technical team to travel to a single place, making a great forum for our resellers and partners to visit us and learn more about our offerings.
Currently we are assured of attending the following trade exhibitions and would love to talk to you about current and future projects during the sessions.
To schedule a meeting at any of the trade exhibits please email events@lan1.com.au and provide some further information including your name, exhibition you wish to meet at and a brief overview of the opportunity.

What is Annex M?
A number of ISPs are now offering Annex M ADSL2+ but what is it? The commonly available version of ADSL2+ in use in the Australian broadband marketplace today is called 'ADSL2+ Annex A' and it supports a maximum upstream data rate of around 1Mb/s. ADSL2+ Annex M is a new, high speed mode of ADSL2+ which allows the upstream data rate to be increased beyond that Annex A limit. Internode , iiNet and others have worked for more than 12 months to have the Australian Network Deployment Rules changed to allow the use of Annex M mode in Australia. The upstream speeds practically achieved using Annex M depend on the same factors that impact downstream ADSL2+ speed - the length and condition of the phone line and the quality of your wiring (amongst others).
Typically achieved upstream speeds in our customer base at this time range up to about 2.5 Megabits per second, with typical speeds on good lines in the 1.6 to 2.2 Megabit per second range. No standard modems are compliant with Annex M however Lan 1 does offer a variety of Integrated Access Devices (IAD) which are Annex M compliant.

New Adaptec Cards are Awesome
David Field of AtomicPC.com.au recently reviewed Adaptec's range of new SAS/SATA RAID cards. Here is what he thought.
One card, 28 hard drives... or 256, if you really want...
We like Adaptec here at Atomic, because its epic 31605 card powered the epic Big Willy.
In the spirit of celebrating systems that are deliciously large and powerful, the Adaptec engineers dropped by our offices last week to demonstrate their new range of SAS/SATA RAID cards. The top of the line one is called the 52445, and it's the first card in the world that will directly support 28 hard drives, regardless of SAS or SATA connection.
It can support more than that indirectly, thanks to the joy of SAS expanders. Basically you hook up a cable from the card and hook it into an enclosure next to your server. Inside that enclosure is an expander that connects all the hard drives to the card through that one cable. Your card can then talk to every drive in the system. You can connect up to 256 drives to a card, and it doesn't matter if those drives are SAS, SATA or both.
The biggest change from the old series is that the brains of the operation is now Intel's IOP348 I/O processor -- the 1.2GHz RAID on Chip formerly known as Sunrise Lake. The processor and controller in the older series used to comprise two large and chips that took up a lot of PCB real estate, but now that they've been replaced by one chip, there's enough room to fit six internal Mini SAS connectors (each of which fans out into four SAS connectors) onto a PCB the size of a sound card.
The cool thing about all this is that every card in the new series is based on the RAID on Chip processor, and there are plenty of versions available that support various numbers of drives. They all run through 8X PCI-e and all have 512MB of memory (except the baby internal 4 port card which only needs 256MB). They all have drilled backplanes so the passive airflow you get over the card can flow out the back of the case.
It was interesting chatting with the engineers, because we found out that there are a lot more SATA drives being used in the server world than we had expected. After pontificating, we concluded that it's the media heavy internet that is responsible for this. SAS drives are fantastic for databases where lots of data is read and written randomly at speed, but SATA drives are much cheaper and perform well for sequential reads, making them more cost effective for storage hungry and read heavy tasks.

Introducing the FortiGate-310B - New sales tools available here!!
Lan 1 and Fortinet are thrilled to introduce the new FortiGate-310B -- a new medium enterprise-class FortiGate with FortiASIC hardware acceleration for firewall/VPN.
Ideal for organizations with 500-2500 users, the FortiGate-310B offers ten 10/100/1000 Ethernet interfaces, allowing it to be deployed as both a gateway and a LAN segmentation device. Mid-size enterprises and secondary education customers will benefit from the fact that eight of the ten interfaces are accelerated by the FortiASIC network processor, a first for mid-range products. This acceleration brings wire speed firewall throughput of 8 Gbps and IPSec VPN throughput of 6 Gbps. Intrusion prevention and antivirus throughput are accelerated via the FortiASIC content processor, found in all FortiGate models, and optional Advanced Mezzanine Card (AMC) expansion options allow for an additional 4 Gigabit SFP-based Ethernet ports or local HDD capacity for log storage.
The FortiGate-310B's increased firewall/VPN throughput and high port density relieves small and medium sized businesses of the restraints that have historically prevented internal network security segmentation.
Competitive Advantages:
- Six times greater firewall/VPN throughput than any other product in its class!
- Optional AMC expansion capability (4 x NP accelerated SFP ports or HDD for local log and content archive)
- Highest port density of any product in its class
